NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Despite outshooting Bryant University by a 13-11 margin, the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs in a Northeast-10 contest on Thursday night.

The Owls are now 1-4, 0-2 in NE-10 play. Bryant moved to 2-2, 2-1.

Bryant opened the scoring late in the first half. Brandie Simmonds knocked in a pass from near the goal line to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead with 5:39 remaining in the opening stanza.

The Owls threatened to notch the tying goal early in the second half, but the visitors added an insurance marker just past the halfway point of the stanza. Caroline Carr tipped in a bid off a penalty corner to make it 2-0 with 13:05 remaining.

Lauren Zarrella (Morris, Conn.) made three stops in net for the Owls on the evening.
