WALTHAM, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team was defeated 3-2 in Waltham, Mass. by conference foe No. 6 Bentley College on Thursday night. With the loss, the Owls dropped to 10-7 overall, 10-5 in Northeast-10 competition, while the Falcons improved 12-5 and 12-3 in the league.

The Falcons controlled the first 50 minutes of the game scoring three times for a devastating 3-0 lead over the Owls.

However, Ann Berry (Belfast, Maine) found the back of the net in the 53rd minute for the Owls, cutting the into the Falcon lead. Then Less than two minutes later, captain Grace Martha (Cheshire, Conn.) added another goal off an assist from Lauren Karn (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), bringing SCSU to within one goal.

Southern could not find the equalizer in the closing minutes, finalizing a 3-2 defeat in Waltham, Mass.

Goalie Lauren Zarrella (Morris, Conn.) tallied five saves in the losing effort for the Owls.

SCSU will travel to Lowell, Mass. for a Northeast-10 Conference showdown against No. 4 UMASS-Lowell on Oct. 18. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
