NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomores Ann Berry (Belfast, Maine), Erin Paduda (Madison, Conn.) and Sara Winterbottom (Burlington, Conn.) each netted a goal to lead a balanced attack as the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team recorded a 3-1 win over St. Anselm on Saturday afternoon. It was the Owls' 'Play 4 The Cure' game to support breast cancer awareness.
The Owls improved to 7-6, 7-4 in Northeast-10 play on the year. St. Anselm is 4-7, 4-7.
The visitors struck first on a goal from Laura Urko just 15:37 into the game.
However, the Owls answered just 4:16 later off of a penalty corner opportunity. Berry capped the play when she tapped in a loose ball from the side of the cage. Molly Daniels (Canton, Conn.) and Paduda assisted on the goal.
Southern Connecticut went in front for good with just over 13 minutes gone by in the second half. Paduda sent a crossing pass into the circle that Winterbottom fired home to put the Owls in front.
Paduda then capped the scoring with an unassisted goal that came with 7:18 remaining.
Lauren Zarrella (Morris, Conn.) finished with seven saves in goal for the Owls.
The Owls return to action on Oct. 8 with a road game at Stonehill.
