MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Southern Connecticut State University softball team held its own in its first meeting with the No. 6 nationally-ranked Barry University Buccaneers on Saturday afternoon, as Barry took the win 3-2. In the second meeting on Sunday afternoon, the Buccaneers overpowered the Owls and claimed a commanding 10-1 victory. With the loss, the Owls fell to 3-6, while Barry improved to 25-2.
The Buccaneers scored early and often, scoring their 10 runs in the first four innings of action. Three different Barry players drove in two runs, and nine Buccaneers contributed to the team's total of 11 hits. Pitcher Amber Jack improved to 14-0 with a three inning one-hitter.
Sophomore
Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to account for the lone Southern Connecticut run. The game ended after five innings due to Barry's nine run advantage.
The Owls are back in action on Tuesday, March 18, as they travel to Fort Pierce, Fla. for a doubleheader against Nyack College.
