NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior captain
Allison Kownacki (Orange, Conn.) scored a season-high nine points (six goals, three assists), but the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team was defeated by Bryant on Saturday afternoon, 21-14.
The Owls are now 2-9, 2-4 in Northeast-10 Conference play on the year. Bryant moved to 7-4, 5-2 in league action.
Bryant struck for the first six goals of the contest before
Grace Martha (Cheshire, Conn.) connected off a free position shot for the Owls' first marker. The teams then traded the next two goals apiece, with
Jessica Kraszewski (West Haven, Conn.) and Kownacki scoring for the Owls.
The Bulldogs then responded with four straight goals to extend their lead to 12-3.
Teresa Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y.) answered with a goal off a feed from Kraszewski, but Bryant came back to score the next three goals for a 15-4 advantage.
The Owls closed the first half strong by scoring three of the final four goals before the intermission. Two came from Kownacki, while Martha netted the other. Bryant led by a 16-7 margin at halftime.
SCSU then outscored Bryant by a 7-5 margin in the second half. Kownacki had three goals and three assists in the final 30 minutes, while Monfredo also chipped in with three goals. Kraszewski also capped a three-point day with a second half tally.
The Owls return to action on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. when they conclude a four-game homestand against Bentley.
