RINDGE, N.H.- There was no shortage of offense during Saturday's Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse matchup between Southern Connecticut State University and Franklin Pierce. Fortunately for the Owls, they posted a season-high 23 goals and breezed past the hosts, 23-15.
SCSU improved to 2-6, 2-2 in Northeast-10 play with the win. Franklin Pierce is now 1-7, 0-5.
The Owls also avenged an earlier loss in the first meeting between the two clubs. The Ravens won by a score of 15-10 in Sanford, Fla. on March 18.
Senior
Allison Kownacki (Orange, Conn.) tallied a team-high eight points (five goals, three assists) on the afternoon.
Teresa Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y.) had a team-high six goals.
Rachel Carlucci (Franklin, Mass.) also tallied five goals on the day.
The Owls jumped out early and took a 3-0 lead within the first 9:09 on goals from Monfredo, Kownacki and
Amanda Dilger (Ocean Township, N.J.).
From there, Franklin Pierce scored six of the next nine goals to even the game at 6-6 with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half. Kownacki scored once during the FPU flurry, while Carlucci scored twice.
SCSU then regained control by scoring the next eight goals of the game. Monfredo scored three times in that run, while
Grace Martha (Cheshire, Conn.) and Carlucci each found the net twice and Kownacki once.
The Owls, who led 12-6 at halftime before scoring the first two goals of the second half, never led by fewer than five goals in the second half.
Monfredo, Kownacki and Dilger each scored twice for the Owls after the decisive eight-goal run. Martha, Ryan and
Marissa Ryan (Waterbury, Conn.) each scored once.
Goalie
Lisa Corso (North Bellmore, N.Y.) finished with a career-high 19 saves for the Owls.
SCSU is back in action on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. for a home game against Adelphi.
