NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Kelly Anne McCafferty (Durham, N.H.) tallied a goal, but the No. 10 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team was tipped by Bentley on Thursday evening in a Northeast-10 Conference outing, 2-1.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak and moved the club to 4-4, 4-2 in league play. Bentley is 3-5, 3-3.

The Falcons opened the scoring just 9:40 into the contest, and the score remained that way into the second half.

Southern Connecticut drew even when McCafferty converted off a penalty corner 9:45 into the second half. Ann Berry (Belfast, Maine) sent the ball out to Molly Daniels (Canton, Conn.), who found McCafferty on the right side of the circle. Her low blast found the back of the net and evened the game at 1-1.

Bentley regained the lead with 8:54 remaining and was able to hang on for the win.

Goalie Lauren Zarrella (Morris, Conn.) finished with six saves for the Owls.

SCSU returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when it hosts No. 3 nationally ranked UMass-Lowell.
