RINDGE, N.H. -
Sara Winterbottom (Burlington, Conn.),
Lauren Karn (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and
Jennifer Sousa (Hartford, Conn.) each scored a goal, but the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team was edged by Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 Conference outing on Tuesday, 4-3.
The Owls moved to 6-6, 6-4 in NE-10 play with the win.
SCSU struck first just 50 seconds into the game when Winterbottom found the back of the net.
However, Franklin Pierce scored the next four goals of the game, forcing the Owls to play catch up the rest of the way.
Karn scored off a tip-in in front of the cage to climb within 4-2 with just under 20 minutes to play. Sousa then connected with 2:35 remaining, but the Owls were unable to net the equalizer.
The Owls are back in action on Saturday when they host St. Anselm at 1 p.m. The club will 'Play 4 The Cure' in the contest and will raise awareness for breast cancer in conjunction with the game.
