LANTANA, Fla. – Senior
Kevin Bowerman's (West Haven, Conn.) triple in the bottom of the seventh, drove in three runs to give the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team a 5-2 win over Bloomfield. Thursday's game was the first of a five-game road trip in Boca Raton, Fla. With the win, the Owls improve to 2-3 while Bloomfield fell to 2-7.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh and the scored tied at two a piece, Bowerman stepped to the plate with bases loaded. He hit a triple to clear the bases and give the Owls a 5-2 lead. The three RBI triple would be all the Owls needed as their bullpen did the rest, giving the Owls their second win of the season.
Bowerman went a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate. Senior
Karl Derbacher (Northford, Conn.) went 1-for-3 with two RBI in the third and a walk. Freshmen
Sam Greenberg (Guilford, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run and
Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) added two more hits as he went 2-for-4 with a double.
In his first outing as an Owl, sophomore
Maxx Catapano (Milford, Conn.) recorded the win as he pitched seven innings with seven strikeouts and two earned runs. Senior
Mike Connors (Wallingford, Conn.) got the save in two-thirds of an inning in relief.
The Owls return to the field today for a doubleheader against Felician at 1 p.m. and Adelphi scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
