CLERMONT, Fla. – The Southern Connecticut State University softball challenged Nyack and Dominican in day two of its three day tournament in Clermont, Fla. on Saturday morning. In game one of the doubleheader, Southern jumped out to an early 5-0 lead over the Warriors. That is all the help pitcher Kerry Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) would need, as the junior threw a two-hit shutout, striking out five for her first victory of the season.

Offensively, eight different members of the squad received hits in the first game of the day. Julianne Flood (Poughquag, N.Y.) chimed in with the big at bats, going 2-for-3 with a triple, one run scored and three RBI. Monica Savarese (Orange, Conn.) closed out the morning contest with one hit, a walk, an RBI and a run scored, while Khristle Lee (Aztec, N.M.) recorded a hit and two runs scored for the Owls. Junior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) continued her brilliant start as well, going 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Southern's 10 hits were not enough as the Chargers downed the Owls, 9-3. Iacomini led the way for the Owls, belting her first home run of the season. She closed out the day going 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Caporossi also collected two hits going 2-for-4 with an RBI, run scored and a stolen base. Senior captain Christina Wolf (Newtown, Conn.) chipped in with a hit of her own and an RBI in the losing effort.
