NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team broke open a scoreless tie with four second half goals to claim a 4-0 win over Assumption on Tuesday afternoon at Jess Dow Field.
The Owls improved to 5-9, 3-4 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Assumption is now 0-12, 0-7 in league action.
Southern Connecticut struck first just 4:13 into the second half when
Laurie Cockerline (Lopatcong, N.J.) tipped in a pass from the middle of the circle.
Erica Fisher (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and
Dieny Charlot (Deep River, Conn.) assisted on the goal.
The Owls extended their lead to 2-0 just over nine minutes later when
Laura Dembofsky (Stamford, Conn.) found the back of the net on a quick shot from the middle of the circle. Fisher also assisted on that marker.
The hosts put the game out of reach with two goals from
Amanda DeChent (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) just 23 seconds apart later in the half. Dembofsky was credited with an assist on the first goal, while
Ann Farrier (Belfast, Maine) assisted on the second.

SCSU is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Bentley at 2 p.m.
