ALBANY, N.Y. – For the second consecutive day, the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team defeated Northeast-10 foe Saint Rose by the score of 13-1.
Steve Simon (Middlefield, Conn.) recorded his fourth win as an Owl, allowing just one earned run on three hits in eight innings. The Owls recorded 15 hits on the day, 10 more than the Golden Knights as they claimed their sixth straight win, improving to 12-4-1 overall and remain a perfect 6-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Saint Rose is now 5-16 overall and 1-5 in the NE-10.
Southern recorded the first runs of the game with a huge four-run third inning.
Greg Malen (Stamford, Conn.) led off with a single to center field and would later score on an RBI single by
Bryan Dorsey (Cheshire, Conn.).
Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) was the next batter and drove in Dorsey with his second home run of the season. The Owls would add one more run in the inning as
Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) doubled to left center to put Southern ahead, 4-0.
Southern had another big inning in the sixth, adding six more runs. They followed that up with a three-run inning in the seventh. Saint Rose scored their lone run in the third and were outscored 9-0 from then on.
Schlitter led the offense as he went 3-for-3 from the plate with two RBI, a double, a run scored and a walk. Malen added three hits as well in five at-bats, including a walk, a RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Dorsey and Geffert each added two RBI,
Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) connected for a double and
Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.) walked three times, hit a single, scored once and drove in a run.
The Owls return to The Ballpark at SCSU on Saturday for a doubleheader as they host Merrimack starting at 12 p.m.
