WEST HAVEN, Conn. – After five straight wins, the Southern Connecticut State University baseball teams' streak came to an end on Wednesday as the No. 23 Owls dropped a pitching duel to New Haven, 2-0. Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) started and allowed just two runs (one earned) on five hits in seven innings pitched and struck out seven but the lack of run support gave the sophomore his first loss of the season.

Southern is now 24-8-1 overall and 14-4 in the Northeast-10. New Haven improved to 22-9 and 10-6 in league play.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when a double by Kyle Donnelly followed by a single, led to a fielder's choice RBI driving in Donnelly for the go-ahead run.

The Chargers added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh when David Wirkus reached home on an error by the Owls.

#A.J. Rouleau# (Westborough, Mass.) led the team offensively, hitting 2-for-4 from the plate. Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.), Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) and Greg Malen (Stamford, Conn.) each recorded a hit for the Owls. Michael Johnston (Thomaston, Conn.) made a relief effort in the eighth, did not allow a hit and struck out one batter.

Southern returns to action on April 15 as they get set to face Post once again.
