No. 23 Owls Take Non-Conference Game at Post, 4-3

WATERBURY, Conn. – The No. 23 ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team grabbed a non-conference win on Thursday night against Post University by the score of 4-3. Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) hit his first home run of the season of the season and added a single to lead the team offensively, going 2-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored.

Southern improves to 25-8-1 overall with the win while Post drops to 13-18.

After three scoreless innings, the Owls managed to get on the board first in the top of the fourth. Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) led off with a double and a single by Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.) in the next at-bat drove in Rosadino for the first run of the game. Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) would then connect for a double, which marked the third hit in-a-row for the Owls and brought in DeProspo to give Southern a 2-0 lead.

Schlitter led off the top of the fifth with a home run but a two-run sixth from the Eagles cut the deficit to 3-2.

In the top of the seventh, Southern went ahead by two after a sacrifice fly from Greg Malen (Stamford, Conn.) drove in Schlitter. The Eagles would post a comeback in the bottom of the ninth by scoring a run, followed by a bases loaded opportunity with two outs remaining. However, Michael Johnston (Thomaston, Conn.) got the batter to ground out into a 463 double-play to clinch the win for Southern.

Rosadino, DeProspo and Geffert each recorded a hit for the Owls. DeProspo and Geffert also recorded a RBI a piece. Kevin Pettine (Somerset, Mass.) registered the win in six innings pitched, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and striking out five. Johnston recorded his third save of the season.

The Owls get set for a big Northeast-10 doubleheader on Saturday, April 17 as they host Stonehill beginning at 12 p.m.
