NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
Kevin Pettine (Somerset, Mass.) allowed just one run in seven innings pitched but a late rally by Adelphi gave them the win over the No. 18 ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team. Adelphi responded after losing to the Owls two days ago by taking Thursday's night game by the score of 5-1. Southern is now 29-9-1 overall and 17-5 in the Northeast-10 Conference. With the win, Adelphi improves to 27-12 overall and 13-7 in the league.
The Owls got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth.
Jordan Hockenberry (Glastonbury, Conn.) reached on a double to right field.
Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) was next at-bat and drove in Hockenberry with another double as the Owls went ahead 1-0.
However, Adelphi responded in the top of the eighth with a three-run inning to take a 3-1 lead. They piled on two more runs in the ninth to pull ahead as they took the game, 5-1.
Southern connected for 11 hits as a team but it wasn't enough.
Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with a stolen base, Schlitter went 2-for-4 with a RBI and Hockenberry went 2-for-5 with a run scored.

Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.),
Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.) and
Greg Malen (Stamford, Conn.) all recorded a hit.
Pettine went seven innings, allowed one run on seven hits, walked just one batter and struck out three in a no-decision.
Southern returns to action on Saturday to host a double-header against Saint Anselm.
