Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Laurie Cockerline (Lopatcong, N.J.) scored her third goal of the year, but the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision at Bentley on Wednesday evening.

The Owls are now 1-5 overall. Bentley is 1-4.

The Falcons scored two goals in the opening 10:03 – tallies from Beth Maguire and Haley Smith – to seize control early. The hosts carried that 2-0 lead into halftime.

Bentley extended its lead to 3-0 with a goal from Nicole Dion just over 20 minutes into the second half.

Southern Connecticut quickly responded with Cockerline's goal just 1:34 later off an assist from Dieny Charlot (Deep River, Conn.). However, the Owls would not be able to get any closer.

Goalie Lauren Zarrella (Morris, Conn.) finished with 10 saves in the contest.

The Owls return to action on Saturday for a road game at Merrimack.
