THE WEEK AHEAD
After splitting two games last week, the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team will play two home games this week against Stonehill on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. and Saint Anselm on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. Saturday's game will be the Owls' annual 'Play 4 The Cure' game, with the club donning pink uniforms to promote breast cancer awareness.
GOALS GONE FISHIN'
Erica Fisher scored two goals, including the game-winning goal in overtime as Southern Connecticut defeated Adelphi, 3-2, on Oct. 4.
COMEBACK KIDS
The Owls have had to come back after trailing in each of their four wins this season. Dating back to last year, 10 of their last 12 wins have come by one goal.
A SLIGHT ADVANTAGE
The Owls have defeated Saint Anselm in the last three meetings dating back to 2008.
LEADING THE WAY
Junior Erica Fisher leads the team in points with 17 (eight goals, one assist).
ON THE HONOR ROLL
Erica Fisher was selected to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll after finishing with four points (two goals) during the week for the Owls.
THE CAPTAINS
Senior Ryan Morgan and junior Randi Schock will serve as team captains for the Owls this fall.
IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLL
The Owls were selected seventh in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll, as voted on by the league's coaches.
A VETERAN PRESENCE RETURNING
Southern Connecticut has 10 student-athletes returning from last year's squad.
WELCOME TO THE CLUB
The Owls welcome five newcomers to this year's squad - Stephanie Karn, Nicole Scionti, Kaitlyn Stobierski, Allison Vilardi and Katy Williams.
THE TRIFECTA
The Owls qualified for the Northeast-10 Tournament for the third year in a row in 2010. It marked the sixth NE-10 Tournament appearance for the Owls under head coach Kelley Frassinelli. Previously, SCSU made the tournament in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009.
TEN OWLS HONORED BY NFHCA
Ten members of the Owls' field hockey squad - Petru Bester, Laurie Cockerline, Paige Donlin, Amanda DeChent, Ann Farrier, Kristin Grecula, Megan Lahm, Ryan Morgan, Jennifer Peterson and Lauren Zarrella - were named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad. The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2010-11 academic year.
OWLS EXCEL IN THE CLASSROOM
Southern Connecticut posted the fourth-highest team grade point average among all Division II field hockey programs in 2010 and earned national honors from the NFHCA.
TRIO HONORED BY NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE
Seniors Ann Farrier and Dieny Charlot both collected All-Northeast-10 Conference honors, while freshman Sarah Cebry was named to the league's All-Rookie Team in 2010.
KEEPING THE STREAK GOING
The Owls won their third straight 'Play 4 The Cure' contest on Oct. 9, 2010 with a convincing 6-1 win over St. Michael's. The team wore pink jerseys and representatives from the Susan G. Komen Foundation were on site to assist the Owls in their efforts to raise breast cancer awareness. SCSU defeated St. Anselm in its first 'Play 4 The Cure' game in 2008 and downed a nationally ranked UMass-Lowell squad in 2009.

The Owls return to action on Oct. 18 when they travel to Assumption at 7 p.m.
