NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The American International College field hockey team scored three goals in the final 15 minutes to snap a 2-2 tie and capture a 5-2 win over Southern Connecticut State University on Senior Night on Thursday evening.
The Owls are now 5-12, 2-7 in Northeast-10 Conference play. AIC is now 11-16, 6-3 in league play.
With the game tied at 1-1 at the half, AIC in front just over 10 minutes into the frame. However, the Owls evened the score again just over three minutes later when
Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) scored on a rebound of her own shot.
The Yellow Jackets surged back ahead on a goal with 14:07 remaining and then added two goals in the final 5:23 to make it a three-goal final margin.
Southern Connecticut opened the scoring with 8:38 left in the opening half when
Randi Schock (Stamford, Conn.) scored off a penalty stroke. However, AIC tied the game just 1:38 later, and the score stayed that way into halftime.
