SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore
Jessica Shaw (Beverly, Mass.) finished with four goals, but the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-9 decision at American International on Wednesday afternoon.
The Owls are now 0-4, 0-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play. AIC is 4-1, 1-1 in league play.
AIC jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Shaw scored her first of the day. Following two more AIC goals, Shaw connected again to make it 7-2. She capped the hat trick prior to the intermission, but the host Yellow Jackets were up 10-3 at halftime.
After two straight AIC goals to open the second half,
Marissa Ryan (Waterbury, Conn.) and
Jessica Kraszewski (West Haven, Conn.) both scored to get the Owls with a 12-5 margin.
AIC would restore its nine-goal lead with consecutive tallies before
Katie Walter (Orange, Conn.) scored for the Owls. Kraszewski, Ryan and Shaw would each score once more in a 19-9 final.
The Owls are back in action on Saturday when they host No. 6 nationally ranked Stonehill.
