No. 2 Softball Falls To No. 3 Merrimack in Northeast-10 Tournament

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University softball finished the regular season second overall in the Northeast-10 and squared off against No. 3 ranked Merrimack at Assumption College in the first round of a double elimination format. The Owls fell by a score of 6-4 mounting a late inning surge in the seventh but fell short in the end.

Jayme Larson (Aurora, Colo.) got the start for Southern going 4.1 innings with four earned and totaling seven strike outs. Larson is now 16-8 on the season.  Brittany Hill (Durham, Conn.) came in as relief going 2.2 innings and allowing two earned.

Leading the offense charge, Jessica Rosa had a solo trot in the bottom half of the fifth, while Alyssa Pagano homered down the left field line to start the late inning surge for the Owls. Southern Connecticut scored three in the bottom of the seventh off four hits and some help from Merrimack's pitcher to walk in a run. Kristin Whitley (North Andover, Mass.) and Brittany Bucko (Wallington, N.J.) each contributed two hits to the cause.

The Owls are now 27-19 on the season and at a point where they face a must win situation tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Lowell for their second game of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.
