WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore third baseman
Alyssa Downs (Seymour, Conn.) snapped a 2-2 tie with a solo home run in the top of the eighth and the Southern Connecticut State University softball team remained alive in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament with a 4-2, eight-inning win over Adelphi in an elimination game on Sunday morning. The Owls will have to win four games today in order to defend their Northeast-10 Conference Tournament title. SCSU will now play New Haven at 11:30 a.m. with the winner moving on to the championship round later today.
Jayme Larson (Aurora, Colo.) got the win for the Owls going 8.0 innings and allowing two runs off six hits with seven K's to keep the Owls alive in the Northeast-10 Conference Tourney.
Senior
Robin Priest stepped up her game when it mattered getting two hits through four at bats on the day, while
Brittany Bucko (Wallington, N.J.),
Kristin Whitley (North Andover, Mass.) and
Stacy Pouliot (Mystic, Conn.) each contributed one run and a hit.
The Owls move on to face Merrimack in the finals of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament today at UMass-Lowell.
