SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Senior Ryan Morgan (Stafford, Conn.) and junior Laurie Cockerline (Lopatcong, N.J.) each scored a goal, but the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team lost to Mansfield in its 2011 season opener on Saturday, 5-2.

Mansfield scored two goals less than two minutes apart late in the first half to take a 2-0 lead. However, the Owls quickly answered on a goal from Cockerline with 71 seconds left in the first half. Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) assisted on the goal. It remained a 2-1 contest at halftime.

Mansfield scored three straight goals in the second half to extend its lead to 5-1 before Morgan connected for her first of the year off a penalty corner. Paige Donlin (South Glastonbury, Conn.) had an assist on the goal.

The Owls return to action tomorrow for a contest against No. 2 nationally ranked Shippensburg.
