Erica Fisher (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal with 3:49 remaining in the second overtime, as the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team captured a 2-1 win over Assumption on Tuesday evening. The Owls actually trailed with just over five minutes remaining in regulation before rallying for the win.
Southern Connecticut improved to 1-2 on the year with the win, while Assumption is now 0-1.
Assumption held the lead in the contest for more than 35 minutes, although the Owls controlled possession for long stretches. Southern Connecticut also held a 19-3 advantage in penalty corners for the game.
Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) evened the score at 1-1 for the Owls with 5:33 remaining in regulation. Fisher sent a bid towards the cage, and a lunging Cebry ensured the ball found the back of the cage.
The game stayed that way well into the second overtime before the Owls finally capitalized. Southern Connecticut worked the ball down low when
Ryan Morgan (Stafford, Conn.) found Fisher down along the goal line for the game-winner.
Assumption tallied the only goal of the first half, a rebound tally by Catie Lopes with 5:36 left in the first half.

Nicole Scionti (Deep River, Conn.) played the final 61:11 and made one save to earn her first collegiate win.
The Owls return to action on Thursday night at 7 p.m. when they host C.W. Post in a non-league game.
