Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) and freshman
Bailey McGinnis (North Branford, Conn.) each scored a pair of goals to lead the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team to a 5-0 win over Assumption on Tuesday afternoon.
The win was the third in a row for the Owls, who are now 7-8 overall and 4-4 in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Greyhounds are 7-9, 4-5 in league action.
The Owls scored twice in the opening 2:16, with the markers coming only 55 seconds apart. McGinnis opened the scoring only 81 seconds into play with a rebound goal.
Allison Vilardi (Burlington, Conn.) followed less than a minute later when she tapped in a pass from Cebry.
SCSU padded its lead to 4-0 with a pair of goals only 2:02 apart later in the half. McGinnis notched her second of the day off an assist from
Laurie Cockerline (Lopatcong, N.J.) to make it 3-0. Cebry then followed with an unassisted tally to boost the cushion to four goals at halftime.
Cebry closed the scoring with a second half goal off an assist from
Erica Fisher (Putnam Valley, N.Y.).
Goalie
Audrey Dolloff (Raynham, Mass.) finished with 12 saves in the contest for the Owls.
SCSU is back in action on Thursday for a road game at AIC.
