Northeast-10 Tournament Berth On Line For Field Hockey This Week

Paige Donlin and the Owls have three league games to close the regular season this week.

THE HOME STRETCH IS HERE
Three games are on the docket for the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team this week. The Owls will play home games against Assumption on Tuesday and Bentley on Saturday sandwiched around a road game at AIC on Thursday.

LOOKING TO CLINCH A NE-10 BERTH
Entering the week, the Owls are in possession of the sixth and final spot for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The top two finishers in the league receive first-round byes. The No. 3 finisher will host the No. 6 squad, with the No. 4 seed hosting the No. 5 opponent on Oct. 24.

SENIOR SENDOFF
The Owls will honor their four seniors - Laurie Cockerline, Paige Donlin, Erica Fisher and Randi Schock - prior to Saturday's game against Bentley.

ALL-TIME AGAINST ASSUMPTION
SCSU leads the all-time series over Assumption by a margin of 18-8, including a 4-3 win earlier this season.

ALL-TIME AGAINST AIC
Southern Connecticut holds a 16-5 all-time lead in the series with AIC, including a 3-2 win earlier this season.

ALL-TIME AGAINST BENTLEY
The Falcons hold a 29-5-1 lead in the all-time series against the Owls.

THE LAST MEETING WITH ASSUMPTION
Sarah Cebry finished with five points, including the game-winning goal with 3:53 remaining, to help Southern Connecticut claim a 4-3 win over Assumption on Sept. 4 in Worcester, Mass. Laurie Cockerline and Bailey McGinnis also scored for the Owls.

THE LAST MEETING WITH AIC
Freshman Bailey McGinnis snapped a 2-2 tie with the eventual game-winning goal only 4:15 into the second half as Southern Connecticut claimed a 3-2 win over American International on Sept. 12 at Jess Dow Field. Sarah Cebry and Randi Schock also scored for the Owls, while Marisa McCann made nine saves to earn her first collegiate win.

THE LAST MEETING WITH BENTLEY
Erica Fisher registered her 12th goal of the season, but the Owls dropped a 9-1 decision to Bentley in the 2011 season finale on Oct. 22, 2011 in Waltham, Mass.

OWLS IN THE NCAA STATS
The Owls continue to have a presence among the NCAA Division II statistical leaders. Sarah Cebry continues to lead the nation in goals (20) and goals per game (1.43) and is second in points (45) and points per game (3.21). Audrey Dolloff is No. 2 in saves per game (9.08), while Bailey McGinnis remained No. 8 in assists per game (0.5).

VILARDI HAS A CAREER NIGHT
Junior Allison Vilardi tallied her first career hat trick, including the game-winning tally, in the 4-2 victory at St. Anselm on Saturday night.

OWLS DOWN NATIONALLY RANKED STONEHILL
The fifth time proved to be the charm for the Owls, who knocked off their first ranked opponent of the year in a 4-2 triumph at No. 10 Stonehill last week. SCSU had dropped its first four games of the season to nationally ranked foes.

PLAY FOR THE CURE
On Oct. 6, the Owls hosted the fifth annual Play for the Cure game. The field hockey team sported pink uniforms and American Cancer Society representatives attended as well.

CEBRY STANDS ALONE
Sarah Cebry continues to create some distance atop the Owls' all-time chart. She scored the 40th marker of her career last time out against St. Anselm. She moved into the top spot back on Sept. 29 to leap ahead of Cathy Cardini, who had 36 goals as an Owl.

FINDING THE BACK OF THE NET
On Oct. 2, Sarah Cebry set a new single season record with her 18th goal of the year.

CEBRY SCORES PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Sarah Cebry's efforts in the Sept. 22 win resulted in a selection as the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week. In addition, she was also named the league's Player of the Week on Oct. 16.

MCGINNIS NAMED NE-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman Bailey McGinnis was tabbed as the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week for her play in the Owls' wins over Stonehill and Saint Anselm.

DOLLOFF NAMED TO NE-10 WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Freshman Audrey Dolloff netted her first collegiate shutout on Sept. 22 with eight saves against Franklin Pierce. For her efforts in the Sept. 29 game, she was named to the NE-10 weekly honor roll.

A DAY FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Junior Sarah Cebry set a Southern Connecticut single-game record with five goals in a 5-1 win over St. Michael's on Sept. 8.

CEBRY SETTING THE PACE
For a second time in 14 days, Sarah Cebry recorded five goals in a game, matching her own program single-game record against Franklin Pierce on Sept. 22.

HOME AT LAST
The Owls made the most of their first home game of the year after five on the road to open the season. Freshman Bailey McGinnis scored early in the second half with the eventual game-winner in a 3-2 triumph over AIC on Sept. 12.

SUCCESSFUL ON PENALTY STROKES
As a team, the Owls have been awarded four penalty strokes this year and have converted all four. Randi Schock has netted two goals, with Sarah Cebry also tallying a pair.

LENDING A HELPING HAND
Freshman Bailey McGinnis had another assist on Saturday to extend her team-lead in that department with seven helpers. She's also second on the team with 17 points.

DONALDSON RESPONDING IN THE CAGE
Junior Robin Donaldson recorded her first win of the year against St. Michael's. She is 1-1 with a 1.59 goals against average and a 812 save percentage so far in 2012.

WIN NO. 1 IN THE BOOKS
Freshman goalkeeper Audrey Doloff recorded 11 saves to earn her first collegiate victory in the game against Assumption. Classmate Marisa McCann notcher her first collegiate win on Sept. 12 in the 3-2 win over AIC. She finished with 11 saves in the contest.

THE CAPTAINS
Paige Donlin, Meghan Lahm and Erica Fisher will serve as team captains this year.

IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLL
SCSU was selected 10th in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll, as voted by the league's coaches.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB
The Owls welcome nine newcomers to this year's squad - Audrey Dolloff, Jennifer O'Neill, Kayla Quinn, Anna Marcucilli, Katie Gontarski, Lauren Anderson, Bailey McGinnis, Marisa McCann and Cathlyn Pistolas.

ANOTHER SEASON IN THE BOOKS
The Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team closed the 2011 season with a 5-13 record. The Owls just missed out on qualifying for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.

DUO NAMED TO NE-10 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
Juniors Laurie Cockerline and Paige Donlin were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey All-Academic Team following the conclusion of the season. Student-athletes must have at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average, have completed at least one year at their institution and be a starter or key reserve.

OWLS EXCEL IN THE CLASSROOM
Ten members of the squad were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their work in the classroom in 2011-12. Student-athletes must post a 3.0 semester grade point average in order to be eligible for the honor.

SEVEN  OWLS HONORED BY NFHCA
Seven members of the squad – Sarah Cebry, Laurie Cockerline, Paige Donlin, Erica Fisher, Meghan Lahm, Ryan Morgan, and Katy Williams - were named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad. The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.

TEAM HONORED BY NFHCA
For the fourth year in a row, the Owls were recognized with National Academic Team honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The National Academic Team Award recognized those institutions that achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.

FISHER PACES THE OFFENSE
Senior Erica Fisher led the Owls last season in scoring with 27 points (12 goals, three assists). Those totals were career-highs for Fisher.
