Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) and freshman
Lauren Anderson (Cheshire, Conn.) each scored a goal, but the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team was tipped by Adelphi, 3-2, on Tuesday evening in a Northeast-10 Conference contest.
Cebry's goal was her 18th of the season, which sets a new SCSU single-season record in that department. Anderson's was her first as an Owl.
The Owls are now 4-7 overall and 1-3 in NE-10 play. Adelphi is 4-8, 3-1.
The Panthers opened the scoring just 4:36 into the game, but the Owls answered only 3:28 later. Originating off a penalty corner opportunity,
Bailey McGinnis (North Branford, Conn.) delivered a pass to Anderson, who slipped a shot through the legs of the Adelphi goalkeeper.
Adelphi went back in front with 2:20 left in the opening half and added an insurance goal with 5:07 remaining in regulation. Cebry converted on a rebound off another penalty corner chance at the 70 minute mark.
Audrey Dolloff (Raynham, Mass.) made six saves in the contest for the Owls.
SCSU is back in action on Saturday for their fifth annual 'Play 4 The Cure' game. The contest against St. Michael's will begin at 2 p.m.
