Final Stats
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A furious surge in the final minutes came up just short for the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team in a 2-1 loss to Bentley on Saturday in the Northeast-10 Conference regular season finale for both teams. The Owls will now wait for seeding for the first round of the league tournament, which begins on Wednesday.
SCSU closes the regular season with an 8-9 overall mark and a 5-5 league ledger. Bentley improved to 11-6 and 8-2 in the NE-10.
Prior to the game, the Owls honored their four seniors –
Laurie Cockerline (Lopatcong, N.J.),
Paige Donlin (South Glastonbury, Conn.),
Erica Fisher (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and
Randi Schock (Stamford, Conn.).
Bentley opened the scoring with a goal from Becca Moore just under 10 minutes into play. The Owls held a 12-11 lead in shots on goal and had a 10-6 edge on penalty corners in the first half, but trailed 1-0 at the break.
The Falcons went up 2-0 at the 2:22 mark of the second half when Gina Lirange scored. The Owls countered with a goal from Schock with 5:43 remaining.
Meghan Lahm (Wingdale, N.Y.) assisted on the goal.
SCSU put the pressure on in the final five minutes and had numerous penalty corners, but was unable to net the equalizer.
Audrey Dolloff (Raynham, Mass.) made 12 saves for the Owls in the contest.
