Lauren Anderson (Cheshire, Conn.),
Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) and
Bailey McGinnis (North Branford, Conn.) each scored a goal, but a second half rally by the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team came up one goal short in a 4-3 loss to Adelphi on Wednesday.
The Northeast-10 Conference Tournament first round loss ends the season for the Owls at 8-10 overall. Adelphi improves to 8-11 and will play No. 1 seeded Merrimack in the semifinals.
Six of the seven goals were scored in the second half. Adelphi took a 1-0 lead into halftime before Cebry netted her 23rd goal of the year 9:45 into the second half.

Two goals by Molly Cuevas put Adelphi in front at 3-1. The Owls closed within a goal with just under 13 minutes remaining on a goal from Anderson. Cuevas capped the hat trick to extend the lead to 4-2, but SCSU continued to battle. McGinnis knocked in a rebound with 1:24 remaining to get back within a goal, but the Owls would get no closer.
