NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Jessica Shaw (Beverly, Mass.) tallied two goals while classmate Lynette Martinez (Stamford, Conn.) made a career-high 17 saves, but the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-3 decision to No. 12 nationally ranked Bentley in its 2012 season opener on Tuesday night.

Bentley jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first 15 minutes before Shaw connected on her first of the night. The Falcons then scored the final three goals of the first half and carried a 10-1 lead into the break.

Bentley scored the first six goals of the second half to extend its run to nine in a row.

The Owls countered with a pair of late goals. Shaw found the back of the net off a free position shot and was followed just over two minutes later by a marker from Elaina Heiple (Cheshire, Conn.).

The Owls return to action on Saturday for a road game at Bridgeport.
