Final Stats

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Bailey McGinnis (North Branford, Conn.) snapped a 2-2 tie with the eventual game-winning goal only 4:15 into the second half as the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team claimed a 3-2 win over American International on Wednesday evening.

The win was the second in a row for the Owls, who improved to 3-3 overall. AIC is 0-5 on the year.

The Owls had to rally from a first half deficit and then used a strong second half from goalie Marisa McCann (Madison, Conn.) between the pipes to secure the win. McCann had eight of her 11 saves in the second half.

Southern Connecticut opened the scoring 7:05 into play when Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) scored her ninth goal of the year on a rebound of her own shot.

AIC tied the game 5:15 later and then went in front with 12:24 remaining in the opening frame.

Randi Schock (Stamford, Conn.) tied the contest at 2-2 on a penalty stroke goal with 5:36 left in the half.

The only scoring of the second half came courtesy of McGinnis, who capitalized off a flurry in front of the AIC cage.

The Yellow Jackets had two penalty corners after time expired, but McCann denied the AIC chances to lock up the victory.

SCSU is back in action on Friday night at 6 p.m. for a home game against St. Anselm.
