Anna Marcucilli and the Owls were edged by St. Anselm, 2-1.

Final Stats

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) scored her team-leading 10th goal of the year, but a late surge by the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team came up just short in a 2-1 loss to St. Anselm at Jess Dow Field.

The Owls are now 3-4 on the year. St. Anselm improved to 2-4.

The Hawks scored the only goal of the first half just over five minutes into action. Despite chances for both teams, the game stayed that way into the second half.

St. Anselm extended its lead to 2-0 with a goal just over six minutes into the second frame.

SCSU countered when Cebry connected on a penalty stroke with 15:34 remaining. The Owls maintained strong pressure for most of the final minutes, but were unable to connect for the tying goal.

The Owls return to action on Sept. 20 for a home game against Merrimack.
