NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. -  Freshman Jamie Matson (East Hartland, Conn.) extended her point scoring streak to five straight games and scored a goal for the fourth time in five games on Friday night in the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team's 4-1 loss to No. 9 nationally ranked Merrimack.

The Owls are now 2-9 overall and 2-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Merrimack is 8-4, 4-1 in league play.

Candace Waldie scored a pair of goals for the Warriors roughly three minutes apart to stake the hosts to a 2-0 lead. The score stayed that way until the second half, when goals from Maura Doyle and Waldie pushed the lead to 4-0.

Southern Connecticut answered on a goal from Matson that was assisted by Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.).

Owls' goalie Audrey Dolloff (Raynham, Mass.) finished with 14 saves in the contest.

SCSU is back in action on Tuesday night for a home game against Assumption.
