Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) registered a pair of goals, but the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team lost a 4-3 decision to Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 Conference contest on Thursday evening.
Southern Connecticut dropped to 3-10 overall and 3-4 in NE-10 play. Franklin Pierce is now 2-11, 1-6 in league action.
The Owls needed less than two minutes to open the scoring in the game as
Jaime Matson (East Hartland, Conn.) set up Cebry for her ninth goal of the year at the 1:46 mark.
The Ravens answered with two goals from Alesia Gleason in just 67 seconds near the midway point of the first half. Courtney Kelly scored with 4:23 left in the first frame to give the visitors a 3-1 lead at the break.
Chanelle Letarte scored early in the second half to extend the lead to 4-1. The Owls cut it back to two goals when
Lauren Anderson (Cheshire, Conn.) knocked in the rebound of a shot from Matson.
Later in the half, Matson tipped a cross to Cebry, who deposited home her second goal of the night to close the gap to 4-3 with just over eight minutes remaining. However, the Owls would be unable to get the equalizer despite sustained pressure late.
SCSU is back in action on Saturday for a road game at No. 3 nationally ranked Stonehill.
