GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Trailing 3-1 with just over 15 minutes remaining in regulation, the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team notched three straight goals to capture a 4-3 win at Adelphi on Wednesday evening.
Jaime Matson (East Hartland, Conn.) scored off an assist from
Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) to cut the deficit to one goal with 15:46 remaining. Then, 3:15 later, Cebry netted her second goal of the night off a penalty stroke to even the score at 3-3.
Matson then capped the comeback with her second goal of the night with 7:51 left.
Kristi Montemurro (New Milford, Conn.) assisted on the game-winner. Matson has now scored a goal in nine straight games for the Owls.
Goalie
Audrey Dolloff (Raynham, Mass.) stopped 20 shots in the victory, including a penalty stroke in the second half that kept the game 3-1 in favor of Adelphi.
Adelphi opened the scoring just 2:57 into play on a goal from Kristen Bagley. Cebry tied the score midway through the first half off an assist from
Zoe Fanolis (Hamden, Conn.).
However, goals from Jamie Ackerman and Carly Aceves gave the Panthers a 3-1 lead at halftime.
With tonight's results, the Owls are now 4-11 overall and 4-5 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Adelphi is 7-8, 2-5 in league play.
SCSU is back in action on Saturday afternoon for a home game against Bentley. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
