Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) tallied her second collegiate hat trick and sophomore
Sarah Muise (Killingworth, Conn.) also finished with three points, but the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team dropped its 2013 season opener to St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday, 19-9.
STAC improved to 6-0 on the year with the win, while the Owls are 0-1.
Southern Connecticut struck first just 10 seconds into the game on a goal from Muise. Then, just over five minutes later, Cebry connected off a pass from Muise to extend the lead to two goals.
STAC cut the lead in half before
Emily Orser (Hamden, Conn.) made it 3-1 off a pass from Muise.
The Spartans tallied the next eight goals before
Jessica Shaw (Beverly, Mass.) scored to cut the gap to 9-4. STAC closed the half with four of the final five goals, as Cebry's second of the day was mixed in for the Owls.
The visitors scored the first four goals of the second half before the Owls responded with three in a row – markers from Shaw,
Katie Walter (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Orser. The Spartans would add two more goals before Cebry capped her hat trick in the closing minutes in a 19-9 final.
The Owls return to action on Saturday for a home game against Southern New Hampshire.
