NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Emily Orser (Hamden, Conn.) registered a team-high five points and sophomore Sarah Muise (Killingworth, Conn.) set a new career-high with four goals as the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team was defeated by Southern New Hampshire on Saturday by a 20-13 final.

The Owls are now 0-2, 0-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Penmen are 2-3, 1-0 in league action.

After a scoreless opening seven minutes, SNHU scored five straight goals in a span of nearly six minutes to build a 5-0 cushion. After Orser's first of three goals on the day, the visitors added two more goals to extend their lead to 7-1.

The Owls countered with three straight goals – one each from Muise, Jessica Shaw (Beverly, Mass.) and Orser – to close the gap to 7-4. SNHU added two goals late in the first half to push its lead to 9-4 at halftime.

The Penmen scored the first goal of the second half before Emily Tooker (Eastport, N.Y.) found the back of the net to make it 10-5. SNHU then scored the next two goals before Tooker and Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) answered to trim the gap back to five goals at 12-7. However, the Owls would get no closer the rest of the way.

Muise would tack on three second half goals, along with two additional tallies from Shaw and one more from Orser.

Orser finished with three goals and two assists. Muise (four goals) and Shaw (three goals) both netted hat tricks, while Tooker had a career-best three points (two goals, one assist).

The Owls return to action on Wednesday for a home game against Adelphi.
