SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut State University softball team ended the regular season Sunday with a 2-1 loss to AIC in a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest game from Judy Groff Field in Springfield, Mass.

Kelsey Cockrill (Haymarket, Va.) got the loss for SCSU (29-19, 19-10 NE-10 SW) going one inning while allowing two runs on three hits. Elizabeth Habib got the win for AIC (14-27, 10-17 NE-10 SW) going six innings while allowing no runs on four hits with four walks and one strikeout.

In the bottom of the first, AIC put up its only two runs of the game to take a 2-0 lead. With a runner on second and two outs, Stephanie Belanger had an RBI single to left field, scoring Jordinn Miller to make it 1-0. In the next at-bat, Katie Merrill had an RBI double, scoring Belanger to make it 2-0.

SCSU had its opportunities throughout the game with base runners in every inning, but left 12 runners on base.

In the top of the sixth, the Owls were knocking on the door with two on and two outs and Brittany Bucko (Wallington, N.J.) at the plate, but Bucko popped up to end the threat.

In the seventh, SCSU would score one run, and had opportunity to tie the score and possibly go ahead. After getting the first out, the Owls had three straight hits leading off with Kaley Marden (Fremont, Calif.) and Alyssa Downs (Seymour, Conn.) while putting runners at the corners.

Stacy Pouliot (Ledyard, Conn.) then made it 2-1 with the RBI single to left field, with one out and now runners on first and second. AIC changed pitchers and Kelsey Malloy was able to retire the next two batters to the threat and earn the save for AIC.

Pouliot led SCSU going 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Downs went 2-for-3 and Marden was also 2-for-4 in the game.
