Softball Swept By Caldwell, 4-1 and 6-0

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Southern Connecticut State University softball team lost two games to Caldwell on Wednesday in a doubleheader from Caldwell Field in Caldwell, N.J.

In game one, Caldwell scored four runs in the sixth inning to get the game one win, 4-1.

Kelsey Cockrill (Haymarket, Va.) got the loss for SCSU (15-11) going 6.0 innings while allowing four runs, all unearned, on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Alyssa Downs (Seymour, Conn.) led SCSU going 2-for-3, while Kate Hoffman (Orange, Conn.) went 2-for-2.

In the first inning, the Owls had the bases loaded and would come away with one run. Stacy Pouliot (Ledyard, Conn.) had an RBI walk, scoring Kaley Marden (Fremont, Calif.) for the 1-0 lead.

Cockrill was cruising until Caldwell (19-4) scored four runs in the sixth on three errors.

In game two, Caldwell scored early and was able to hold the lead for a 6-0 win.

Jessica Van Alphen (Hudson, N.Y.) got the loss for SCSU going 6.0 innings while allowing five earned runs on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Julie Muscarella (Suffield, Conn.) led SCSU going 2-for-3.

Caldwell took a 3-0 lead in the first after Alyssa Calderon had an RBI double and Dia Cascone had a two-run triple.

Cascone added an RBI triple in the third and scored a run on a passed ball to make it 5-0.
