Emily Orser (Hamden, Conn.) registered a team-high five points and sophomore
Sarah Muise (Killingworth, Conn.) added four goals as the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team was defeated by Assumption on Wednesday evening.
The Owls are now 1-7, 0-6 in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Greyhounds are 7-4, 4-3 in league action.
Assumption scored the first 10 goals of the game to build a 10-0 advantage roughly midway through the first half.
Southern Connecticut scored five of the final seven goals of the frame – three goals from Muise and a pair from
Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) to close within 12-5 at the break.
Assumption scored five of the first seven goals of the second half – a pair of markers from Orser were mixed in between – to extend the lead to 17-7. However, the Owls kept the Greyhounds of the scoreboard in the final 15 minutes.
Jessica Shaw (Beverly, Mass.) and Orser both scored twice down the stretch, along with another goal from Muise, but could get no closer than five.
Nora Anderson (Stratford, Conn.) finished with nine saves in the contest for the Owls.
Southern Connecticut is back in action on Saturday for a road game at Bentley.
