GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – #25 Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse fell to #12 Adelphi, 19-4 on Tuesday evening in an NE10 matchup. The Panthers improved to an overall record of 11-4 and an NE10 record of 9-0, while the Owls dropped to an overall record of 12-4 and an NE10 record of 6-3.
Macy Vail led the Owls with two goals and three points.
Anna Meserve and
Abigail Nolan both scored a goal.
Maddox Burton had two assists against the Panthers.
Allie Welder won a team-best of three draws,
Breya Montague caused a team-best of three turnovers, as
McKenzie Schindler and Montague picked up a team-best of three ground balls. In goal,
Caelan Connors made five saves against Adelphi.
In the first quarter, the Panthers got on the board first; but
Macy Vail, with an assist from
Maddox Burton, scored her first goal and tied the game at 1-1. However, the Adelphi offense regained their momentum and scored six unanswered goals to end the quarter. In the second quarter, it was Vail, with an assist from Burton again, as the Owls looked to make a comeback. Nevertheless, the Panthers continued to score and put five goals on the board, before halftime.
In the third quarter, Adelphi's offense didn't stop as they recorded three straight goals, to open the quarter.
Anna Meserve, with an assist from
Abigail Nolan, scored the Owls' third goal of the game. The Panthers scored another goal and extended their lead, as they headed into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, Adelphi scored three more goals before
Abigail Nolan scored the final goal of the game for Southern Connecticut.
The Owls will return to action on Saturday, April 25 at 4:00 pm in their first NE10 Championship game in program history, as the third seed, at Jess Dow Field. Southern will wait for the official seeding, to see who they will face in the First Round.
