Final Stats

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Emily Orser (Hamden, Conn.) scored a career-high five goals, but the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought 9-7 decision to Queens College on Tuesday evening, 9-7.

The Owls are now 1-9 overall, while Queens improved to 7-2.

Southern Connecticut merited its fewest goals in a contest since a 20-8 win over AIC on March 25, 2008. The Owls never led in tonight's contest, but hung with the Knights throughout the full 60 minutes.

Queens scored the first two goals of the game before Orser registered her first of the night off an assist from Jessica Shaw (Beverly, Mass.). The visitors scored the next two goals to go ahead, 4-1, but SCSU answered with three straight goals to tie the game.

Emily Horan (South Windsor, Conn.) started the rally with her first goal of the year before Orser capped the hat trick to knot the score. Queens went back in front with just 1:12 remaining in the first half and carried that lead into the break.

The Knights scored the first goal of the second half to extend their lead to 6-4. Orser countered with her fourth of the game, off an assist from Emily Tooker (Eastport, N.Y.) to trim the deficit back to a goal at 6-5. Queens then scored the next two goals to match its largest lead of the game.

The Owls responded once again to close back within a goal. Katie Walter (Woodbridge, Conn.) connected off a free position shot before Orser's fifth of the day made it 8-7 Queens with 9:20 remaining. The Knights would score once more and play keep-away for most of the final minutes to secure the win.

Goalie Nora Anderson (Stratford, Conn.) made a career-high 12 saves for the Owls in the contest.

Southern Connecticut is back in action on Thursday for a home game against Stonehill.
