Audrey Dolloff (Raynham, Mass.) turned away 17 shots, but the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to No. 10 nationally ranked AIC on Tuesday night.
The Owls are now 0-4 on the year. AIC improved to 4-1.
The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring 13:57 into play on a goal from Kayla Harbin. The first of three goals from Jenna Masionis came just over seven minutes later and extended the AIC lead to 2-0.
SCSU closed within a goal when Matson scored off a feed from
Marita Brothers (Stafford, Conn.). However, only 37 seconds after the Owls' goal, Masionis netted her second of the night to restore the two-goal lead. AIC maintained its 3-1 lead into halftime.
Masionis capped the hat trick just over eight minutes into the second half before Ainslee Penfield added a late goal to make it a 5-1 final.
The Owls are back in action on Saturday for a home game against No. 4 nationally ranked Stonehill.
