NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Jaime Matson (East Hartland, Conn.) scored her first collegiate goal and sophomore goalkeeper Audrey Dolloff (Raynham, Mass.) turned away 17 shots, but the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to No. 10 nationally ranked AIC on Tuesday night.

The Owls are now 0-4 on the year. AIC improved to 4-1.

The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring 13:57 into play on a goal from Kayla Harbin. The first of three goals from Jenna Masionis came just over seven minutes later and extended the AIC lead to 2-0.

SCSU closed within a goal when Matson scored off a feed from Marita Brothers (Stafford, Conn.). However, only 37 seconds after the Owls' goal, Masionis netted her second of the night to restore the two-goal lead. AIC maintained its 3-1 lead into halftime.

Masionis capped the hat trick just over eight minutes into the second half before Ainslee Penfield added a late goal to make it a 5-1 final.

The Owls are back in action on Saturday for a home game against No. 4 nationally ranked Stonehill.
