Field Hockey Heads To Keystone State For Two Games This Weekend

A NEW SEASON BEGINS
The Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team begins the 2013 season against Mansfield on Saturday. The game will be held at Shippenburg University. The Owls will also take on the Raiders on Sunday.

ALL-TIME AGAINST MANSFIELD
The all-time series between SCSU and Mansfield is 5-1 in favor of Mansfield.

ALL-TIME AGAINST SHIPPENSBURG
The all-time series between SCSU and Shippensburg is 14-3 in favor of Shippensburg.

THE CAPTAINS
Seniors Meghan Lahm and Sarah Cebry will serve as captains this fall.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB
The Owls welcome nine newcomers to the squad for the 2013 season - Jamie Matson, Marita Brothers, Alicia Morgan, Kimberly Driscoll, Megahn Davis, Zoe Fanolis, Vienna Pallisco, Kennedy Farr and Kristi Montemurro.

ANOTHER SEASON IN THE BOOKS
The Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team closed the 2012 season with a 8-10 record. The Owls qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.

CEBRY CAPTURES ALL-AMERICA HONORS
Junior Sarah Cebry was  selected as an All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association at the conclusion of the season. She was named to the Second-Team after a campaign in which she led all of Division II in goals per game (1.28) and was No. 2 in points per game (2.89). Cebry also finished third in goals with 23 and fourth in points with 52. Along the way, she set new Southern Connecticut single-season records for goals and points. In addition, she also set a new single-game record with five goals, achieved twice during the campaign. Cebry also moved into first place on the SCSU career chart in goals during the year.

OWLS FIGURE PROMINENTLY IN FINAL NCAA STATS
The Southern Connecticut State University field hockey program was well-represented in the final NCAA statistical rankings. Sarah Cebry led the nation in goals per game (1.28), was third in goals with 23 and fourth in points with 52. She was also No. 2 in points per game (2.89). Audrey Dolloff finished the year ranked No. 2 in saves per game (9.50), No. 10 in save percentage (.764) and No. 17 in goals against average. Bailey McGinnis was No. 17 in assists per game (0.39), while Anna Marcucilli was No. 19 in defensive saves (3.0).

DUO COLLECTS ALL-ROOKIE LAURELS
Bailey McGinnis and Audrey Dolloff were named to the Synapse Sports Division II All-Rookie Team at the conclusion of the year.

PAIR SELECTED TO SENIOR ALL-STAR GAME
Seniors Erica Fisher and Randi Schock were selected to participate in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association North-South Senior All-Star Game.

TRIO NAMED TO NE-10 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
Seniors Laurie Cockerline and Paige Donlin, along with junior Sarah Cebry, were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey All-Academic Team following the conclusion of the season. Student-athletes must have at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average, have completed at least one year at their institution and be a starter or key reserve. It marked the second year in a row that Cockerline and Donlin earned the honor.

OWLS EXCEL IN THE CLASSROOM
Twelve members of the squad were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their work in the classroom in 2012-13. Student-athletes must post a 3.0 semester grade point average in order to be eligible for the honor.

SEVEN OWLS HONORED BY NFHCA
Seven members of the squad – Sarah Cebry, Laurie Cockerline, Paige Donlin, Erica Fisher, Marisa McCann, Bailey McGinnis and Cathlyn Pistolas - were named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad. The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.

TEAM HONORED BY NFHCA
For the fifth year in a row, the Owls were recognized with National Academic Team honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The National Academic Team Award recognized those institutions that achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.

ON DECK
The Owls will travel to Bentley on Saturday September 14.
