Whitney Dyer (Danbury, Conn.) and sophomore
Vienna Pallisco (Sherman, Conn.) each scored a goal as the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team was doubled up by No. 6 nationally ranked LIU-Post on Tuesday, 4-2.
The Owls are now 2-7, 0-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Pioneers improved to 7-1 and 3-0.
The only goal of the first half came from LIU's Kaycee Zelkovsky just over four minutes into play. Five goals were scored in the second half between the two clubs, with Keliann Margiotta extending the Pioneers' lead to 2-0 just over seven minutes into the second half.
Dyer cut the lead in half with her second goal of the year, off an assist from
Emma Farrel (Cheshire, Conn.).
Lauren Adamusik restored the two-goal lead for the hosts before Pallisco registered her second of the year to make it 3-2 with 11:51 left.Â
Margiotta added a tally later to make it a 4-2 final.
Goalie
Audrey Dolloff (Raynham, Mass.) turned away 13 shots for the Owls in the contest.
SCSU is back in action on Saturday for a road game at Franklin Pierce.
