Field Hockey Falls To No. 7 Adelphi 3-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team fell to the No. 7 nationally ranked Adelphi Panthers Tuesday night, 3-1.  With the loss, the Owls are now 2-13 overall and 0-7 in Northeast-10 play, while Adelphi moves to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the NE-10.

Mary Plotas, the leading goal scorer for the Panthers, scored all three goals in the game for her team, the first goal coming in the 13th minute off an assist from Molly Cuevas.  Plotas was waiting in the middle of the box for Cuevas's pass, which she received and put past goalie Audrey Dolloff (Raynham, Mass.).  Plotas scored again in the 26th minute in similar fashion as her first goal.

The Owls' lone goal came from Emma Farrel (Cheshire, Conn.).  Kristi Montemurro (New Milford, Conn.) centered a pass toward the box where Farrel was standing and she blasted it past Amanda Gargiulo for her fourth goal of the year.  That brought the Owls to within one before the half.

Plotas scored her third goal of the game ten minutes into the second half when she fired a rebound past Dolloff.  It was her 17th goal on the year.

Dolloff made ten saves on 13 shots in the loss.  Southern Connecticut returns to action this Sunday at Bentley.
