Emily Horan (South Windsor, Conn.) finished with a career-high four goals while classmate
Emily Orser (Hamden, Conn.) notched a hat trick as the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team recorded a 13-4 victory over the University of Bridgeport in non-league play on Saturday.
The win was the first of the year for the Owls, now 1-5. Bridgeport dropped to 1-7.
Neither team scored in the first 10 minutes, but the host Purple Knights followed with two scores in just under four minutes to take a 2-0.
The Owls responded by registering the final four goals of the opening half – tallies from
Sarah Muise (Killingworth, Conn.), Horan,
Jennifer McCarthy (Norwalk, Conn.) and
Lauren Anderson (Cheshire, Conn.).
Southern Connecticut extended its run to six consecutive goals with second half markers from
Emily Tooker (Eastport, N.Y.) and Orser. Bridgeport countered with the next two goals to close to 6-4 with 16:29 remaining, but the Owls defense put the clamps on from there, holding UB scoreless the rest of the way.
The Owls' offense then put the game of the reach by netting the final seven goals – three from Horan, two from Orser and single scores from Muise and
Kennedy Sherman (Buchanan, N.Y.).

The Owls are back in action on Tuesday for a home game against Post.
