NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore
Kennedy Sherman (Buchanan, N.Y.) recorded a career-high five points (four goals, one assist) as the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team raced out to a 10-0 lead en route to a 14-6 win over Post on Tuesday evening.
Both teams moved to 2-5 on the season following tonight's result. It was the second consecutive win for the Owls.
Sarah Muise (Killingworth, Conn.) added four points (three goals, one assist) for the Owls, while
Emily Orser (Hamden, Conn.) and
Emily Horan (South Windsor, Conn.) both contributed two goals and one assist.
Horan started the scoring just 2:51 into play before Sherman and Muise scored 20 seconds apart to pad the lead to 3-0. Muise added a second goal before
Jennifer McCarthy (Norwalk, Conn.) connected for a 5-0 cushion less than 10 minutes in.
Orser followed with her two goals to extend the lead to 7-0. McCarthy,
Emily Tooker (Eastport, N.Y.) and Horan continued the barrage for a 10-0 lead before Post scored with 1:09 left in the first half. McCarthy added another goal with just seven seconds left in the frame to make it 11-1 at the break.
Neither team scored in the second half until there was 11:01 remaining on a goal from Post. Muise,
Lauren Anderson (Cheshire, Conn.) and McCarthy added second half goals to make it a 14-6 final.
Goalie
Vanessa Pagano (Wilton, Conn.) stopped eight shots in the win.
SCSU is back in action on Saturday for a road game at Franklin Pierce.
