Kennedy Sherman (Buchanan, N.Y.) finished with a hat trick, but the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-9 decision at Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon.
The game was tied at 5-5 early in the second half, but the Ravens scored seven of the next nine goals to take control of the contest.
SCSU is now 2-6 overall and 0-5 in Northeast-10 Conference play. FPU is 3-4, 2-3 in league play.
Sarah Muise (Killingworth, Conn.) opened the scoring just 1:33 into play before the Ravens countered with five consecutive goals. Sherman and
Jennifer McCarthy (Norwalk, Conn.) connected before the intermission to trim the Owls' deficit to 5-3 at halftime.
Southern Connecticut tied the game with two goals early in the second half - back to back markers from
Emily Horan (South Windsor, Conn.) just 73 seconds apart.
The Ravens netted the next two goals before an Owls' counter from
Emily Tooker (Eastport, N.Y.) made it 7-6.
However, FPU recorded five of the next six goals to build a 12-7 cushion. Sherman and McCarthy added late scores to make it a 12-9 final.
