NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sarah Muise (Killingworth, Conn.), Emily Orser (Hamden, Conn.) and Lauren Anderson (Cheshire, Conn.) each netted a pair of goals as the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team registered an 8-6 victory over Merrimack in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday.

With the win, the Owls improved to 4-10 overall and earned their first NE-10 win of the year (1-9). Merrimack dropped to 2-13 and 1-10 in league play. SCSU also set a new single-season win record with the triumph today.

It was a game that the Owls led from practically start to finish and never trailed in. Anderson opened the scoring just 1:40 into play off an assist from Emily Horan (South Windsor, Conn.). Anderson quickly followed with her second goal of the day just 1:09 later to build a 2-0 lead.

After a Merrimack goal from Clare Blomberg, Orser and Muise connected just 59 seconds apart to push the Owls' advantage to 4-1 midway through the first half.

A goal from Dara Hayes cut the lead to 4-2, but Orser scored only 47 seconds later to restore the three-goal lead. The Owls held a 5-2 lead at the half.

Jennifer McCarthy (Norwalk, Conn.) scored only 31 seconds into the second half for a 6-2 lead. The teams would then alternate the next four goals, with Muise and Horan scoring for the Owls. Merrimack recorded two goals in the final five minutes but could get no closer than two in an 8-6 Owls' win.

SCSU goalie Vanessa Pagano (Wilton, Conn.) finished with five saves in the game.

The Owls are back in action on Tuesday for a home game against LeMoyne.
