Three Games Ahead For Women's Lacrosse This Week

The Owls will play three games this week.

BUSY WEEK AHEAD
Three games in five days await the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team this week. The Owls open the week with a trip to West Virginia to face Alderson-Broaddus on Tuesday and Wheeling Jesuit on Thursday. SCSU then returns home for a Northeast-10 Conference game against No. 9 nationally ranked Stonehill on Saturday at noon.

NEWCOMERS OUT TO A QUICK START
Four Owls - Nicole Healey, Taylor Portelinha, Carolynn Keal and Emma Farrel - all recorded their first collegiate points in the opening week of action.

QUICK DRAW
Carolynn Keal has a team-high 10 draw controls through the first two games of the year.

GROUNDING IT OUT
Nicole Healey has a team-high 10 groundballs through the first two games of the year.

ALL-TIME VS. ALDERSON-BROADDUS
Tuesday's meeting will be the first in program history between the two schools.

ALL-TIME VS. WHEELING JESUIT
Thursday's meeting will be the first in program history between the two schools.

ALL-TIME VS. STONEHILL
Stonehill leads the all-time series by a 13-0 margin.

MUISE IN HUNT FOR CAREER RECORDS    
Sarah Muise is 29 goals short and 34 points shy of holding the all time record at Southern Connecticut State University. She has 84 goals and 96 points entering her senior season.

BEST SEASON IN PROGRAM HISTORY
With wins over Bridgeport, Post, Queens and Merrimack, the Owls set a new program record for victories in 2014. The old mark of three had been set on three occasions.

GOOD GROUP BACK
Southern Connecticut has 11 student-athletes returning from last year's team.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB
The Owls welcome eight newcomers to the team for the 2015 season - Nicole Healey, Ella Akier, Taylor Portelinha, Hailey Prindle-Nelson, Carolynn Keal, Heather Kearns, Alexa Picciuto and Emma Farrel.

THE CAPTAINS
Senior Sarah Muise and sophomore Jennifer McCarthy will serve as team captains for the 2015 season. 

IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLL
Southern Connecticut was selected 12th in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll, as voted on by the league's coaches.

MCCARTHY NAMED TO ALL ROOKIE TEAM
Jennifer McCarthy was selected for the Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team in 2014. She was ranked second on the team in goals (21) and points (25) and led all freshman in both categories. McCarthy also finished second on the team in draw controls with 36.

IN SEASON OPENERS
The Owls hold a 1-13 record in season openers. The win was over American International College in 2007. 

ON DECK
The Owls are back in action for March 25 game at LeMoyne.
